Set the context

  • I thought about all the meetings I’ve been in this week. These have been project status meetings, change communication sessions, message drafting, vendor kick-offs, etc. Attendance at each meeting has averaged 20+. One major thing was missing from nearly all these meetings. CONTEXT.

Although there is always some kind of introduction, I’ve noticed via facial expressions and questions being asked that many of the meeting attendees don’t really understand the purpose of the meeting and more importantly the context of how the meeting topic fits into their lives.

How do the pieces fit together? What is the link to strategy?

The cure for too many meetings is not to skip the meetings but rather to lead them well. Can you draw the context for the participants?
